The device will also allow design engineers to be able to use the measurements to correlate to their FEA models.ĭesign for Manufacturing: Lightweight Car Frame The pressure data measured by the device will allow the design engineers to properly size the hardware needed to ensure there's adequate contact normal force between the CPU chip and the socket. A fully mated condition mean that the CPU chip has been compressed to the final mating position. The device to be developed and to be fabricated will allow the CPU socket design engineers to evaluate the pressure distribution at a fully mated condition.

The Capstone team will work with our external vendor on designing an automated pallet retrieval system called “pallet mole” which will assist us in handling the fastest items more efficiently using the existing mechanical and software technologies available in the market. Some of these items are so popular that we tend to store and pick them very often, making the existing process costly for the business. In order to retain our top position in the market, we tend to stock supplies of first necessity items at our warehouse. One of our core business values is to be the leader in the supermarket industry. Lancaster Distribution Center is considered to be the biggest warehouse on the eastern coastline owned by Albertsons Companies which serves the millions of retail customers of ACME Markets, Safeway, Kings, and Balducci’s. Included in the renovations of the existing building, all new and existing HVAC equipment would be tied into Penn State University's Building Automation System so that all equipment could be controlled remotely by PSU CCS. The new addition also included a paint room with fully filtered exhaust system. To accommodate this large quantity of new equipment, a 400 amp central bus duct was installed. The addition to the new manufacturing space would house close to 20 pieces of machining equipment including lathes, cnc milling machines, welding stations, and a high pressure water-jet cutting center. Lastly, the project would also provide several much needed renovations to the existing building. The addition would also include the construction of a new display room to showcase some of the departments creations, including their annual high powered go-cart. The goal of this project was to provide additional manufacturing space for the Learning Factory department of the PSU Industrial Engineering program.
